Grounded Theory: Evolution, Principles, and Applications in Qualitative Research

The objective of this review article was to explore Grounded Theory in depth, one of the most influential qualitative methodologies. Its evolution was analyzed from its origins with Glaser and Strauss to contemporary approaches, such as the constructivist perspective. The methodology employed was a systematic documentary review that allowed the identification of key principles of Grounded Theory, including theoretical sampling, coding (open, axial, and selective), memo writing, and the constant comparative method. The main findings demonstrate that Grounded Theory stands out for its ability to generate theories directly from data, making it a rigorous inductive approach. However, challenges were also identified, such as misinterpretations and debates regarding researcher objectivity. The expected conclusions reaffirm the relevance and impact of Grounded Theory by providing a methodological framework that legitimizes qualitative research. Additionally, its capacity to generate knowledge applicable to practice in fields such as health, education, and social sciences makes it an invaluable tool for understanding complex phenomena.
