This article analyzes the role of the National Institute for Adult Education in addressing educational lag in Mexico. It examines the magnitude of the problem, its main structural causes, and the public policies implemented to tackle it. The research was conducted using a qualitative, documentary approach based on a review of academic and institutional sources. The results indicate that educational lag remains a structural issue linked to social inequality. Furthermore, the Institute plays a key role by implementing flexible educational programs aimed at young people and adults; however, it faces challenges related to coverage, student retention, and resource availability. It is concluded that institutional strategies need to be strengthened and comprehensive public policies promoted to guarantee the right to lifelong education.
