Abstract

Nurse migration not only involves relocation to a different geographic location but also a profound change in their personal and professional self-perception when facing new cultural realities. In this context, self-care becomes a fundamental pillar for preserving well-being, while exposure to diverse ways of life and customs transforms the way they provide care to others. The objective of this article was to analyze how migrant nurses perceive and practice self-care and care for others in diverse cultural settings. A qualitative approach was used, based on Spiegelberg H.’s phenomenological-hermeneutic method, conducted between 2019 and 2024 with the participation of six university faculty members selected intentionally. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using Atlas.ti software. The findings highlight the importance of understanding the deeper meaning of “caring for oneself and others,” providing a solid foundation to strengthen nurses’ performance in migratory contexts. They also emphasize the need to design policies that support professional development and ensure better working conditions, recognizing their essential role in healthcare provision.
